COMMERCE - Having big-play capability once playoff time rolls around can be a weapon that is hard to handle. Just ask Landmark Christian.
The War Eagles ran 73 plays to Commerce's 33 but the speed of the Tigers' Deon Brock was unstoppable. Brock had 238 yards rushing on just eight carries and scored four times to lead Commerce to a 29-19 win in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
Brock had four runs of 40 or more yards and two runs of more than 70 yards as Commerce piled 401 yards rushing as a team. Landmark Christian had a balanced attack of 201 yards rushing and 146 passing but the War Eagles defense was no match for Brock.
Josh Streetman rushed for 93 yards on 13 carries and kicked a 30-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to give Commerce (7-4) a 29-13 lead and put the game out of reach.
The Tigers will travel to Darlington next week in the second round of the Class A playoffs.
