City mulls long-term golf club deal with CCC

GAINESVILLE - The Chattahoochee Country Club (CCC) wants a new deal with Gainesville's Chattahoochee Golf Club. But there could be one huge difference in the length of the deal.

"The golf course currently has an agreement with Chattahoochee Country Club," said Golf Club Pro Rodger Hogan. "It's a one-year agreement, but the Country Club is looking for a longer term agreement."

To the tune of ten years.

The proposal would increase the amont of annual costs, but would give the Country Club unlimited golf rounds for its members.

Currently, it pays the city $285,000 in green fees per year, and receives 9,500 rounds per year. Through October, the Country Club members were not on pace to reach the 9,500 limit for 2009.

The proposed deal from Chattahoochee Country Club would raise the green fees to $300,000 per year for the first two years, and then to $315,000 for the third year of the deal.

After the third year, increases cannot be more than 3% annually, unless the Country Club's membership increased 10% or more.

Council members seemed mixed on the proposal.

Mayor Myrtle Figueras said the guaranteed income would be big for the city, but also seemed leery of signing such a long deal.

Councilman Bob Hamrick said they might need to negotiate another one-year deal before agreeing to the 10-year contract.

He also said the golf course needs more non-members to play.

Councilman George Wangeman thought the deal could be in the best financial interest of Gainesville.

City Manager Kip Padgett said Hogan still needed to get performance standards numbers before council could properly make a decision.
