SHMS stroke victim leaving hospital

ATLANTA - A South Hall Middle School student-athlete who suffered a massive stroke in September during a cross country meet is leaving the hospital Wednesday to begin a an outpatient rehab program.

Alberto Diaz's doctor told Fox 5 that being an athlete will only help the 8th-grader reach his goal saying "he has has that...strength to fall back on...he's somebody that can train himself and get himself motivated so that's been very helpful to him."

Alberto collapsed while running in a cross country meet at West Hall Middle School. His doctor says he suffered significant brain damage as a result of the stroke.
