Public discipline of college FB officials is rare

By The Associated Press
NEW YORK -- The national coordinator of college officials says he generally disapproves of officials being disciplined publicly, but understands why the SEC and Pac-10 recently announced suspensions after high-profile mistakes were made.

David Parry said Tuesday there are times when a conference feels the need to ``publicly acknowledge'' it took steps to discipline an official.

Last week, the Southeastern Conference announced it had suspended a crew of officials after they were involved in two games with personal foul penalties that the league later said were not supported by video evidence.

On Tuesday, the Pac-10 announced it suspended a game official for missing a facemask penalty in the Oregon State-Southern California game last week.
