Dawson Co. man to represent self at sentencing

ATLANTA - A judge says a Dawson County man convicted on terrorism charges earlier this year will be allowed to represent himself at his sentencing.

Syed Haris Ahmed of Dawsonville and Ehsanul Islam Sadequee of Roswell were originally scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.

U.S. District Court Judge William S. Duffey granted Ahmed permission to represent himself at his sentencing, which is now set for December.

Ahmed was found guilty in June of conspiring to support terrorist groups while Sadequee was convicted of sending videotapes of U.S. landmarks overseas and plotting to support ``jihad.''

Ahmed said he is best able to represent his own position.

His court-appointed lawyer, Jack Martin, will be present as a standby.
Sadequee's sentencing was postponed to give the court time to consider his request for a new trial.
