Contract approved for Belmont area water lines

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Plans are moving ahead to bring water service to a group of people in the Belmont area.

The Gainesville City Council Tuesday approved a $958,000 contract with Po Boys Plumbing of Winder for the long-awaited water main extensions.

An amendment the contract adds McEver Lake Road to the project. Hall County is to reimburse the city for the cost of construction the lines.

Jason Perry with the Public Utilities Department told the council last week some of the people who will be served by the new lines are desparate for the water.

"They're all anxious to get water out there," Perry said. "There are some people who are in bad shape down there."

Perry said he hopes to get work started before Thanksgiving.
