DAHLONEGA - Lumpkin County snapped a two-game losing streak with a 34-7 win over Pickens Friday night in Region 7A-AAA action at The Burial Ground.
The Indians (3-3, 1-2 in region) scored 34 unanswered points after Pickens (1-5, 0-3) took a quick 7-0 lead just three plays into the game on a 72-yard pass play.
Lumpkin County tied the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter and took the lead for good with just 17 seconds left in the second quarter. The Indians took a 14-7 lead when Jake McClure hit Chad Fulton on a 10-yard touchdown pass on a fake field goal call.
The Lumpkin defense then took over inthe second half. The Indians gave up just 50 total yards to the Dragons after their scoring pass while the Lumpkin ground game got going.
Lumpkin quarterback Taylor Guthrie rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns, including one for 69 yards, and running back Michael Flanagan had 130 yards and two touchdowns, including a 95-yard touchdown run.
