White County Board Of Education Holds Charter School Hearing

(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Education held the first of two public hearing Tuesday night, at White County High School Media Center, on seeking Charter School status. A charter school is a public school that operates according to the terms of a contract that has been approved by the local board and the State Board of Education. <br />

At last nights hearing White County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Shaw provided information about the process of getting the charter status. Dr. Shaw said by 2013 each school system must make a choice of three types of school they want to be and they feel the Charter System is the best for students, parents and taxpayers. Shaw also said with the charter status the local school operation would be guided by county system leadership team, each school governing councils and parent /community councils. <br />

White County must submit an application for charter status with the state by November first. Another public hearing on the charter status will be held Thursday October 22nd at 6:00 PM. <br />
