I have always been a big fan of the word accoutrement. I am fairly sure that for a long time after hearing the word, I really had no idea what it meant. But, I just liked the way that it sounded when it rolled off the lips. I later learned that the word accoutrement was not nearly as important as what it accompanied, but it sure sounded like it should.<br /> <br /> I am always looking for opportunities to use the word and give it an opportunity to be as important as it sounds. Its time may have actually arrived. In a world where we are looking at things that are most important to those things that are least important, it seems that the gap lessens when we consider the accoutrements that are attached to both ends of the spectrum. Governments might actually find this word to be their best friend as they go about the business of providing basic services while also attempting to satisfy the people s palate of what they have become accustomed to, concerning services that go well beyond being basic.<br /> <br /> It is very similar to what we experience when we decide that we will take on a new hobby. It might be needlepoint and it might be skydiving, but as soon as we make our pick, we realize that we need some stuff, or accoutrements, to whatever our interest might be. Jogging is a fairly simple prospect when it comes to what is needed to fulfill the activity. Once you get past having feet, everything else becomes a superficial addition to the activity. And with the prosthetics that have been recently developed, jogging is actually now possible without feet. But, before we take our first jog we have gone out and bought jogging shoes, jogging clothes, audio devices that sync with our jogging shoes, reflective devices and the list of accoutrements go on and on.<br /> <br /> It is the same with our governmentâ
