Measure proposes GDOT shakeup

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - House Republicans are proposing to shake up the way the Georgia Department of Transportation is run.

The proposal would allow the governor, the lieutenant governor and the House speaker to appoint the five members of the board.

The legislation, sponsored by Republican state Rep. Steve Davis, would mark a significant departure from the current setup.

Legislators from each of Georgia's 13 congressional districts now elect their own member of the board in what is often a divisive process. This measure would shift the board's power into the hands of the three political leaders.
