Volleyball: Four area teams battle on 'Mike Adcock Night'

OAKWOOD - Flowery Branch, Johnson, Chestatee and Creekview each won Region 7-AAA matches on "Mike Adcock Night" Tuesday at Johnson High in Oakwood.

The Lady Knights (19-11, 7-3 in region) beat Chestatee in two games 25-17 and 25-21 behind the play of Laura Gazaway, who had 10 digs, Jordan Gustavel with six kills and nine digs, and Shelley Farley, who had 20 assists.

Alura Roe had eight kills, and Jessica Porter had 10 digs to lead the Lady War Eagles in the loss.

Meanwhile, Chestatee did defeat Creekview 2-1 (29-27, 17-25, 25-23).

Madisen Yates tallied seven kills and a block for the Lady War Eagles, while Roe had four kills and two blocks. Ali Burnette also had four kills and 16 digs; Jessica Porter had 23 digs, and Elvira Perez had 11 digs.

Ninth-ranked Flowery Branch defeated Johnson 2-0 (25-17, 25-23) but lost to Creekview 2-0 (25-18, 25-19).

The Lady Falcons (27-9, 7-2) were led by Megan Grewett's 14 kills and one ace while Jennica Ramey posted 28 assists, two kills and two aces. Samantha Salyers also tallied seven kills, one assist, one ace, and two blocks.

Flowery Branch finishes its regular season on Oct. 7 against Gilmer and Chestatee in the Sardis Community.

Meanwhile, Chestatee plays again Thursday against Pickens.
