Softball: Creekview still perfect in 7-AAA after win over West Hall

By staff report
CANTON -- Senior Kate Gorzyca struck out 13 and walked none to lead Class AAA No. 6 Creekview to a 1-0 win over West Hall in Region 7-AAA action.

The win for the Lady Grizzlies kept them unbeaten in region play (19-4, 9-0 in region). She surrendered just one hit and did not allow a runner past first base.

The Lady Spartans got an equally stellar performance on the mound from Emily Hammond, who also surrendered just one hit - to Gorzyca - and only three baserunners for the game.

Creekview's only run came in the third inning allowed when Gorzyca scored on a wild pitch after moving to third on a ground ball.

West Hall coach Warren Sellers said it was another close game for his Lady Spartans (13-7, 7-2), who have six one-run losses on the season.

"We went toe-to-tow with them and I feel like we both have a chance to make it to state," Sellers said. "We need to learn how to win games like this. We've won some close games and a game like this can give us some confidence that we can play with and beat the best teams in the state."

Alex Wright got West Hall's only hit in the top of the seventh but Gorzyca was able to retire the side without another runner reaching base.
