GAINESVILLE -- It only took two for the Lakeview Academy football team to make history.
The Lions had five different players score touchdowns in taking a 35-6 win over Hebron Christian for their first-ever GHSA varsity win.
It was hard for Lakeview coach Matt Gruhn to control his excitement for his program.
"It feels great, especially after last week's loss," Gruhn said. "We had some very good opportunities, and we took advantage of them this week."
The game was scoreless until the second quarter when the Lions (1-1) scored twice in just over two minutes, first on a 2-yard run by Tom Drury and then on a 30-yard run by Haughton Carswell. Austin White added a 6-yard touchdown run just before the half to make it 21-0.
Lakeview led 35-0 when Hebron scored on a long pass with less than two minutes left in the game.
Gruhn said the win was something his players had been building toward for three years.
"It means a lot to them," he said. "They showed a lot of confidence tonight. We only have 22 players, so the team is exhausted. Now we have to prepare the team for our region schedule in a couple weeks."
Drury finished with 141 yards on 20 carries to lead the Lakeview offense. Nick Saye returned a blocked punt 20 yards to lead the special teams.
