Hall Co. Obama coordinators moving to other states

By Ken Stanford
UNDATED - The Hall County coordinator for the Barack Obama campaign, as well as the South Hall-Buford coordinator, are being moved to another state as part of a renewed concentration on more competitive states, such as North Carolina. But the campaign denies the move means Obama is conceding Georgia.

Staffers confirmed the movement of resources on Tuesday. The move comes nearly three weeks after the Obama campaign dropped its TV ads in Georgia.

Campaign officials declined to say how many of some 75 paid Obama staffers will be redeployed and denied that the move signals reduced expectations in the state. There was also no word on the fate of the campaign offices around Georgia, including four in northeast Georgia in Cumming, Winder, Athens and Gainesville.

Caroline Adelman, spokeswoman for the Obama campaign in Georgia, says voter registration drives will continue. She says two new campaign offices will be opened this week in south DeKalb County and Savannah.

Republicans say the move is a sign Obama knows he doesn't have a chance with Georgia and is setting his sights on places more democrat friendly.

Meanwhile, Susan Harmon, a local Obama volunteer, confirmed Wednesday that the local coordinators are moving on.

"In late June, the people of Hall County began coming together to lay the foundation for the Campaign for Change and the election of Senator Barack Obama as our next president," Harmon said. "The initial efforts were accomplished through the extraordinary leadership of Adam Yalowitz, Hall County Coordinator, and Jessica Barrow, South Hall & Buford Coordinator."

Harmon added "The results speak for themselves. Since July, we, as a team, have registered over 2,000 new voters, identified over 750 new Hall County volunteers, and, since Labor Day, made over 4,100 phone (bank) calls..

Beginning Monday, she said, the Hall County campaign office, located at 1097 Athens Street, will be open every day until the election from 10:00-8:00.
