COVINGTON -- The West Hall girls volleyball team prepared for the opening of its Area 7-AAA schedule going 4-1 at Alcovy against Class AAAA and Class AAAAA teams.
The Lady Spartans (8-9) opened the day with a 25-11, 25-23 win over host Alcovy and then dropped a tough two set match to Ola 25-18, 25-22. West Hall rebounded with a 25-14, 25-13 over Salem, then beat Eastside in three games 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, and closed out the day with 25-20, 25-21 win over Newton.
On the day West Hall was led in kills by Abigail Grindle with 18, McKenzie Jackson with 16, and Kristen Holmes and Erica Grainger getting 10 each.
Erica Grainger had 29 assists and Sadie Cornett 19 for the Lady Spartans while Jessica Hollis played outstanding defense recording 50 digs. Abigail Grindle had 24 digs for West Hall.
Sadie Cornett had nine aces, Abigail Grindle seven, and Erica Grainger six to pace west Hall in serving. In blocks Kristen Holmes had three and McKenzie Jackson had two.
West Hall opens Area 7-AAA play on Tuesday in a tri-match at Flowery Branch against Flowery Branch, North Hall, and Chestatee beginning at 5 p.m.
