Collins Hill survives nailbiter with Dacula

By Ken Gustafson
DACULA -- Thanks to a blocked extra point, Collins Hill was able to hold on for a 14-13 victory over Dacula Friday night.

Collins Hill (2-0) opened with two straight wins to start the season for the first time since 2004.

"It was a nailbiter. We played hard tonight, but we've got to get better in many aspects of the game," senior quarterback Michael Box said. "It was a nailbiter and we don't want that. We need to practice hard and become more convincing."

Collins Hill struck first in the second quarter as junior running back James Reed capped off an 10-play scoring drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 7-0, which would stay that way until halftime.

Collins Hill extended its lead to 14-0 early in the third quarter on a 14-yard scoring run from senior Charles Perkins.

The Falcons got back in the game late in the third quarter and a 2-yard TD run by junior Ashad Holloway to cut the lead to 14-7. The game would stay that way until the Falcons' Taylor Roberts caught a 6-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-13 with 1:47 left in the game.

However, the Eagles' special teams saved the game blocking the PAT try. The Dacula defense gave the Falcons one last chance stopping the Eagles on downs with 12 seconds left but time ran out on the Falcons as the Eagles defense held.

"In Regions 7 and 8, every game is going to be a battle," Collins Hill Head Coach Billy Wells said. "If we played them five more times, the outcome might be different."

Collins Hill will take its undefeated record to Chattahoochee next Friday night while Dacula will try to get in the win column as they travel to Grayson.
