No. 2 Georgia holds second straight grueling practice

ATHENS -- The No. 2-ranked Georgia Bulldogs continued preparations for their upcoming game with Central Michigan by holding a two-hour workout Wednesday on their FieldTurf area.

"Hopefully, we'll finish better Saturday so we went on the turf again today to create a heat index that's hotter compared to game day," Georgia head coach Mark Richt said. "I've been pleased with the last two practices, I like the fact that it has been warmer, and we held up well. We had good energy."

Georgia finished the day with a one-minute drill, and the defense provided the highlights. The number one unit held the number two offense out of the end zone, and then the number two defense did the same to the number one offense.

Georgia and Central Michigan are 1-0, and their offenses garnered most of the attention from the season-opeing victories. The Bulldogs dispatched Georgia Southern 45-21 while the Chippewas defeated Eastern Illinois 31-12.

Georgia ranks second nationally behind BYU for the longest active winning streak among FBS (Division I-A) teams. BYU has won 11 straight dating back to last season while Georgia has won eight in a row. With a victory Saturday, Georgia would match its longest winning streak under Richt. The Bulldogs won their final two games of the 2004 season and their first seven games of the 2005 season. Georgia's last double-digit winning streak came during the 1982 regular season when it posted an 11-0 mark.

On Friday, Richt indicated he will show the team video clips from last Saturday's win, providing examples of good and bad plays.

"We're going to show plays of what we expect and help everybody understand the Georgia way," said Richt. "We can talk about it, and now they can see it. They enjoy it, and they especially like to be on the good highlights."

The UGA-CMU contest will begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and will be televised by FSN South. All Georgia games are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on WDUN AM-550 in Gainesville. The radio audio also can be heard worldwide on georgiadogs.com.
