ATLANTA - The Georgia State Patrol says 18 people died on state roads during the 78-hour Labor Day holiday, two more fatalities than predicted.

The deaths occurred in 13 fatal crashes between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight on Monday.

One of the fatalities occurred in northeast Georgia, where there were 192 reported accidents with 50 injuries. The fatality occurred in Habersham County. (See separate story.)

The patrol issued a release Tuesday saying the final count was 2,154 traffic crashes, 577 injuries and 18 fatalities. Estimates had been for 1,898 crashes, 901 injuries and 16 fatalities.
