NWS team checking storm damage

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - A team from the National Weather Service (NWS) is surveying damage in Hall and Jackson counties to determine whether those were tornadoes that touched down Tuesday as the remnants of Fay soaked the state.

The Weather Service says the worst damage Tuesday appeared to be in the Commerce area in Jackson County, where dozens of mobile homes were damaged or destroyed.

In Hall County, a number of homes and places of business were damaged as were two schools... Oakwood Elementary and Lyman Hall Elementary. (See separate stories.)

Meteorologist Matt Sena says a team is traveling Wednesday to the affectedareas to see whether the damage may have been from tornadoes.

Wednesday's forecast calls for a small chance of rain. But Sena says the system that moved in Friday and brought as much as 30 inches of rain to south Georgia has left the state.
