New subdivision planned for north Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Here's something we haven't had a lot of lately as the housing slump continues: plans for a new subdivision in Gainesville.

Plans for the construction of a 29-unit town home development at Yonah and Enota avenues in north Gainesville have been revised.

Developer Jack Waldrip's proposal calls for a 13-lot single-family subdivision and a 40-unit apartment complex on the site.

The houses would range in size from 1,200-2,000 square feet, one- and two-story. The apartments would be one-bedroom units.

Original plans for the site called for 29 town homes of between 3,200-3,500 square feet.

The zoning amendment request goes before city planners Sept. 9.

Word of Waldrip's plans came as Hall County Building Inspection Services released data showing that in July permits were approved for only 17 new, single-family homes in the county - by far the fewest for a single month in years. Last July, 101 were okayed.

The peak this year was in February, when 70 were issued.
