Atlanta-bound jet makes emergency landing

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
NEW YORK CITY - An American Airlines jet made an emergency landing Tuesday at New York's Kennedy airport after one of the two engines lost power. Airline officials say there were no injuries.

A spokesman for Fort Worth, Texas-based American says the MD-80 took off from LaGuardia Airport bound for Atlanta, but the crew immediately noticed they did not have full power.

He says they then made a normal landing at JKF.

The spokesman says engine debris was found on the runway at LaGuardia. He says the engine will be examined to determine the cause of the failure.

There were 139 passengers and a crew of five aboard the plane.
