Petrino: Hogs have 'long way to go' before opener

By The Associated Press
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino told reporters Tuesday that his football players did well at the opening of their fall drills, but still have a long way to go before the Razorbacks' Aug. 30 opener against Western Illinois.

``I really think we have a long way to go as far as our intensity,'' the first-year coach said at the team's annual media day.

In the team's first set of drills Monday, ``some guys were just practicing to get through the practice rather than improving,'' Petrino said.

Petrino was named the Razorbacks' coach last fall after the departure of Houston Nutt. Under Petrino, quarterback Casey Dick will operate under his fourth offensive scheme in as many years.

Petrino said the task with Dick is not to deprogram him but to build on the quarterback's skills.

``We work hard on his technique,'' Petrino said. ``I think his accuracy has really gone up. I look forward to him having a good year for us.''
