ATLANTA - Georgia Highway 316 is unlikely to become a toll road despite renewed talks of tolls as a solution to Georgia's transportation funding woes.
Department of Transportation spokesman Mark McKinnon says the 2003 proposal is "dead in the water" because of public opposition.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters announced a new funding formula for highways in Atlanta on Tuesday. The formula calls for the government to sell or lease road to private companies. The companies will charge drivers to use roads.
