Maddux gets win No. 351 at the expense of Owings, D'Backs

By The Associated Press
SAN DIEGO - In Greg Maddux's brilliant career, no win was harder to get than No. 351.

Backed by big home runs by Khalil Greene and rookie Nick Hundley, the 42-year-old Maddux snapped a career-high, 14-start winless streak by beating Micah Owings and the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-5 on Monday night.

It was the fourth straight win for the last-place Padres. The NL West-leading Diamondbacks had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Maddux received a nice ovation from the crowd of 29,302 after being removed with none out in the sixth, two runners on and the Padres leading 8-3. He appeared to stomp the ground as he crossed the first-base line, but then tipped his cap to the crowd.

Gainesville's Micah Owings was the losing pitcher and is now 5-8 for the season.
