CANTON - Bobby Wirsing pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run in leading the Gainesville A's to a 6-5 win over Loganville Sunday in the quarterfinals of the North Georgia American Legion Tournament at Cherokee High School.
The loss was the first of the tournament for Loganville.
The A's will take on Rockdale at 2 p.m. Monday at Cherokee High. Rockdale is the only team to beat Gainesville in the tournament with a second round win.
The winner of the Gainesville-Rockdale game will move into the title game against Loganville at 5 p.m. Monday.
The A's built a 5-0 lead after the third inning but had to hold off a late Loganville rally. Andy Edmundson pitched two innings allowing one run and Josh Wright earned the save pitching the ninth.
P.J. Krauss and Cody Ackerman continued to swing hot bats collecting two hits apiece in an eight-hit Gainesville attack. Ackerman had two RBI and Krauss had one RBI for the game.
