KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) - Officials say one person is dead after a small airplane crashed as it tried to land at an airport in the northern Atlanta suburbs.
Kathleen Bergen, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the Socata TBM 700 single-engine aircraft was registered to Flying Max LLC based in Vero Beach, Fla. No phone listing was available for the company.
She said the pilot was the only person in the airplane. Bergen was unsure where the plane started its trip.
Bergen referred all calls about the victim to the Kennesaw Police Department.
Kennesaw police spokesman Scott Luther said witnesses told authorities the plane did a nosedive in a wooded area about two miles from McCollum Airport. Luther said authorities were working Tuesday afternoon to identify the victim. He said no one on the ground was injured.
The FAA is investigating the crash.
