A's pound out win over Alpharetta

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville A's showed just how potent their offense can be Thursday night.

The A's pounded out 14 hits against a good Alpharetta Post 201 pitching staff in a 12-5 American Legion win that saw every batter in the lineup get at least one hit.

With the win Gainesville (14-7, 7-1 in Area) has won seven of its last eight games overall and has averaged nearly 10 runs a game over the past two weeks.

The A's jumped on Alpharetta starter Kevin McCann early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run home run by Zeb Miller. They never looked back and scored in every inning but the second and third and built a 9-1 lead after six innings.

Gainesville got a solid pitching effort from five pitchers who allowed just eight hits and only two earned runs collectively. Andy Edmundson, who followed starter Bobby Wirsing and Matt Pilgrim, got the win as the trio allowed just one run. Kalen Phillips was hit for four runs - only two earned - and Luis Delgado finished the game allowing just one hit.

Alpharetta scored a run in the fourth on a RBI ground out by Matt Cosner and added four runs in he sixth on back-to-back RBI singles from Sean Ruane and Justin Deshan. Post 201 cut the lead to 9-5 on a two-run error by Gainesville later in the sixth.

Zach Bennett and Charlie Newman each had three hits and one RBI to lead the Gainesville attack. Bucky Free had two hits and Cody Ackerman, Tyler Vaughn, Lance Smallwood, Will Rowlett, and Delgado all had one hit for the A's. Delgado also drove in two runs.
