Tide's Saban expresses support for Stabler

By The Associated Press
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama coach Nick Saban is hopeful that Kenny Stabler's recent drunken driving arrest won't have a negative impact on Stabler's future with the university.

Saban, former head coach at LSU, says he wants Stabler to remain with the Crimson Tide. The former Alabama and Saints quarterback has been the team's color analyst for football radio broadcasts for the past decade.

Stabler was arrested Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. It was his third such arrest since 1995.

Learfield Communications holds the multimedia rights for Alabama sports. The company has issued a statement saying its main concern at this point is with Stabler's well-being.

Alabama athletic director Mal Moore has also said Stabler's friends need to support him.
