Dogs set to take on Miami in first game of CWS

ATHENS -- Georgia's baseball team faces a tough test in its first College World Series (CWS) game on Saturday night in Omaha, Neb., as the seventh-seeded Bulldogs take on top-seeded Miami.

First pitch has been set for 7 p.m. on ESPN.

The Bulldogs (41-23-1) advanced to college baseball's top tournament on Saturday courtesy of a 17-8 win over N.C. State in Game 3 of the two teams' best-of-three Athens Super Regional series.

The Hurricanes (52-9), meanwhile, advanced to Omaha with a 2-1 series defeat of Arizona. It will be Miami's 23rd appearance at the College World Series. The Hurricanes won national titles in 1982, '85, '99 and 2001.

The trip to Omaha marks the Bulldogs third appearance in the College World Series in five years (2004, 06 and 08). Georgia won the national title in 1990.

It will mark the third time in Georgia's six CWS trips that it will open with a night game. In 1987, Georgia faced Stanford while in 1990 the Bulldogs squared off against Miss. State.

The opening game of the 2008 College World Series will feature Stanford against Florida State at 2 p.m. The tournament in Omaha features eight teams and follows a double-elimination format.
