SEC TV? It may be coming soon

By The Associated Press
DESTIN, Fla. - The Southeastern Conference is considering starting its own television network.

SEC presidents and athletic directors discussed the issue with television executives this week at the league meetings. The football and basketball deals with CBS, ESPN and Raycom are set to expire next spring.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive is hoping for a decision by this fall on whether to stay with the traditional model or follow the Big Ten and Mountain West conferences in creating a network.

Former ESPN executive vice president of college sports programming Chuck Gerber has been working as a consultant for the SEC on the negotiations since April.
