Fla. officials react to latest Lanier release decision

WASHINGTON - "Irresponsible" is the word used by two Florida Congressmen reacting to Georgia's request that more water be kept in Lake Lanier and on the heels of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' decision to honor the request.

The corps announced on Wednesday its plans to hold back more water at least through the end of May.

In reaction, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.) said Georgia continues to make such requests while relaxing water restrictions to the detriment of downstream interests.

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue relaxed those rules earlier this spring.
