OAKWOOD - The new Sam's Club in Oakwood - set to open Thursday - held a special preview and ceremony Tuesday morning for local businesses and organizations.
Twelve different organizations were awarded Sam's Club Oakwood Good Works grants totaling more than $18,000.
Grant recipients also took a tour of the facility, which features a pharmacy, optical center, one-hour photo center and a members-only gas station.
Sam's is moving from its old location on Frontage Road to Mundy Mill Road, right next to Wal-Mart. The new building will be 136,000 square feet, as opposed to the old one, which was 108,000 square feet.
"The building wasn't big enough to handle all the extras that most clubs had," Sam's Club Manager Greg Volz said. "The business needs called for it (a bigger building)."
A grand opening ceremony for Sam's Club is set for 9:45 a.m. Thursday.
