Job fair for laid-off Dahlonega plant workers

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
DAHLONEGA - The call is going out for employers who have job openings to help find new employment for those people losing their jobs with the closing of a Lumpkin County plant.

Gary Powers, President & CEO of the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce, said plans for the job fair grew out of a meeting last week about the Mohawk plant closing next month, which will leave 366 workers without a job.

Powers said the meeting included representatives of the Georgia Department of Labor, the city, the county, the downtown development authorities, the Lumpkin County Developmental Authority and community social service agencies.

"The job fair will be held May 20 from two 'til 6:30 at the park and recreation gym at 365 Riley Road," he said.

Powers emphasized that any business which has job openings is invited to set up a table at the job fair.

"There will be no charge to participate but you must sign up through the Chamber of Commerce and e-mail me at [email protected] to participate."
