AUSTELL, Ga. (AP) Cobb County police say a caregiver has been arrested after an elderly woman died from injuries received after the caregiver left her home alone to buy alcohol.
Cobb County police have charged 52-year-old Mary Victoria Simpson with reckless conduct and cruelty to persons over the age of 65.

According to a police warrant, on April 11, Simpson left 85-year-old Vivian Elizabeth Howell's house to buy alcohol.

Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said that while she was gone, Howell's daughter found her mother alone and injured and called police. Police said Howell died at a hospital Sunday as a result of her injuries.

Howell's daughter, Charlotte Gilham, said Howell had asthma and was in the second stage of Alzheimer's disease, which left her feeble and very forgetful.
Pierce said an autopsy has been completed, but police are not releasing the results or describing the nature of Howell's injuries because they are awaiting toxicology results.
State Department of Corrections records show Simpson was released from prison in 2004 after serving 11 months for terroristic threats. In 2000, she was convicted in Cobb County of cocaine possession.
