ATLANTA -- Georgia State officially announced plans Thursday to kick off a football program in 2010.
The Panthers will compete in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA. Athletic director Mary McElroy says she hopes to hire a coach this summer, then bring on four assistants to begin recruiting the school's first class of signees a year from now.
Georgia State will play in the Colonial Athletic Association, with home games at the 70,000-seat Georgia Dome. The school plans to build a new practice field and training facilities.
