Self won't leave Kansas for alma mater

By The Associated Press
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Bill Self will remain the men's basketball coach at Kansas, according to a person familiar with the decision. The move ends uncertainty about Self's future after he led the Jayhawks to their first NCAA title in 20 years on Monday.

The person spoke on condition on anonymity because an official announcement has yet to be made. Kansas called an afternoon news conference to talk about Self's future.

Self spent much of the day meeting with athletic director Lew Perkins.

Self has indicated several times since winning the NCAA championship that he was inclined to remain at KU. There has been speculation that Oklahoma State, where he played and coached, might make a megabucks offer to lure him away.
