Diamonds Dogs fall to Miss. State on wild pitch in 10th

By The Associated Press
STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - Grant Hogue scored the winning run Friday in Mississippi State's 3-2 victory over Georgia on a wild pitch in the 10th inning, giving the Bulldogs a win in the first game since coach Ron Polk announced his resignation.

Polk's 1,361st win came about a half-hour before he was expected to speak with reporters for the first time since resigning Thursday, effective at the end of the season. Mississippi State (11-13, 2-5 Southeastern Conference) had lost four of five.

Hogue reached base on a single in the 10th. He stole second and advanced to third as Georgia (13-10, 4-3) catcher Bryce Massanari's wild throw skipped into the outfield. He then scored on a wild pitch by Joshua Fields (0-1).

Ryan Collins' RBI single in the fifth inning tied the score 2-2 for Mississippi State and the teams remained deadlocked through regulation.

Reliever Chad Crosswhite (2-2) picked up the win after striking out two in two innings.
