GREENVILLE, S.C. - A Delta Air Lines plane with 259 passengers on board made an emergency landing at Greenville-Spartanburg Airport on Wednesday after the pilot smelled smoke in the cockpit.
Airport manager Larry Holcombe said the problem appeared to be a malfunction in an air conditioning vent. One woman reported minor burns and was treated at the scene.
Holcombe said Delta Flight 1819 was flying from Raleigh, N.C., to Atlanta. The plane was able to taxi to the concourse and the passengers are waiting for Delta to get them on to Atlanta, which will likely happen later tonight.
Delta spokeswoman Betsy Talton said that one woman aboard the Boeing 767 complained of minor burns, but refused treatment from paramedics. Talton said that Delta was sending a bus to the airport to take passengers back to Atlanta, but some people have made their own arrangements.
Delta is inspecting the plane and does not know when it will be put back in service.
