MACON -- Tanner Smith scored 27 points to lead Wesleyan to a 61-43 victory over East Laurens in the Class AA boys state championship.
The Wesleyan girls basketball team was also crowned champs earlier Saturday, beating Paideia 79-40. Wesleyan became the ninth school in Georgia to have both the boys and girls squads win a title in the same year the first since Southwest Atlanta Christian accomplished the task in 2006.
The Wolves led 45-37 after the third quarter. Then Wesleyan outscored East Laurens 16-6 in the fourth to pull away.
