GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville woman, who, along with her late husband, played a key role in making the Ronnie Green Heart Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) what it is, was honored by the hospital Tuesday night.

Lillie Mae Green was recognized at a meeting of the Mended Hearts, a support organization at the medical center for heart disease patients and their families.

Green and her late husband, Frank Green, made a $4 million donation from the estate of their late son, Ronnie Green, to fund the Ronnie Green Heart Center at NGMC.

"We want to thank her for the impact the Green family has had on not only Northeast Georgia Medical Center, but also the community as a whole, "said Mended Hearts President Peter Rocco, reading a letter of appreciation to Green, who was unable to attend the meeting.

Daniel Winston, a surgeon with Peachtree Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, was the featured speaker.
