Former federal campground could become day-use park

HIAWASSEE - The site of a former federal campground in Towns County may become a day-use park operated by the county.

The county has written a letter to the U.S. Forest Service outlining its proposal for the old Lake Chatuge Campground.

The conversion would be phased in over a three-to-five year period.

Plans call for, among other things, exercise stations; picnic areas; a 24-hole DISC golf course; a fishing pier; boat ramp; playground; swim area; and bath house.
