Dahlonega man killed in Dawson Co. wreck

DAWSONVILLE - A Dahlonega man was killed and his wife and daughter, along with four other people, were injured in a head-on crash Sunday in Dawson County.

Radio Operator King with the Georgia State Patrol says Christopher Sams, 33, died in the crash. His wife, Tonya, 29, was seriously injured and taken to Emory Hospital at Johns Creek. The couple's three-year-old daughter was treated at North Fulton Regional Hospital and released.

The Sams' car collided with an SUV on Georgia 53 about a tenth of a mile west of the Forsyth County line about 4:30.

Four people - whose names had not been released at mid-morning Monday - were in the other vehicle, an SUV. The driver was taken to North Fulton in serious condition, according to King. Three children who were in the SUV, ages 6, 10 and 12, were taken to an Atlanta children's hospital but their injuries were not serious, according to King.

King said it was raining at the time of the accident and its possible that it was weather-related.

Georgia 53 was closed from the time of the accident until about 11:00 Sunday night.
