Mercer uses strong second half run in win over Campbell

MACON - Shaddean Aaron scored 22 points, James Florence added 18 and Mercer used a strong run midway through second half to beat Campbell 75-70 on Saturday.

Campbell (10-13, 5-6 Atlantic Sun Conference) took its largest lead of the game at 51-41 with 11:08 left in the second half after Preston Dodson made a free throw.

But the Bears (10-14, 5-6) answered with 10 straight points, tying the game at 51. Florence, who also had six rebounds and four assists, made a jumper and a 3-pointer during the spurt.

Mercer took a 61-60 with 5:42 left in the game, then built an eight-point lead. The Camels cut the lead to 72-70 with 17 seconds remaining on a Jake Wohlfeil 3-pointer, but Campbell didn't get any closer.

Brian Pfohl scored 17 points for the Bears. Calvin Henry had five blocked shots.

Wohlfeil and Reggie Bishop each scored 19 points for the Camels. Jonathan Rodriguez had 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Kyle Vejraska added 10 points.
