Dogs head to Florida looking to break losing streak

GGAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - Georgia and Florida meet for the first of two regular-season matchups Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are 11-9 on the season thus far, 2-5 in SEC games, having dropped a 67-59 decision at home to Vanderbilt three nights ago. The loss was Georgia's fourth straight after piecing together two straight SEC wins over Alabama and Arkansas in mid-January.

It is quite possible that Georgia could be deploying a first-time starter in Saturday's game. Junior Billy Humphrey, the Bulldogs' second-leading scorer, today will be serving the first game of a suspension for violating UGA Athletic Association policy.

Head coach Dennis Felton could replace him with either Zac Swansey or Troy Brewer, both freshmen without a collegiate start to their credit. Felton could also insert junior Corey Butler, a non-scholarship player who has started four games this season, in Humphrey's place.

The Bulldogs are seeking victory in a venue that has yielded few positive results in recent years. Georgia teams have won just twice in Gainesville in the past 10 tries. Those occurred consecutively in the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

Florida not only won both regular-season contests in 2007, but the Gators also defeated Georgia in the SEC Tournament second round in Atlanta.

These two teams complete their regular-season series in a Feb. 27 contest in Athens.
