Buford girls fall short to No. 1 Wesleyan

BUFORD -- For the first 24 minutes the Class AA sixth-ranked Buford girls basketball team played No. 1 Wesleyan toe-to-toe trailing just 38-33 heading into the fourth quarter Tuesday night.

But Wesleyan was just too tough down the stretch outscoring Buford 26-19 in the final period to pull away for a 64-52 win in Region 6-AA action.

Buford fell to 19-5 overall, 11-4 in region play with two losses to No. 1 Wesleyan and the other two to No. 2 Greater Atlanta Christian. Wesleyan improved to 21-2, 14-0 in the region.

Buford trailed just 10-9 after the first quarter and 24-20 at halftime.

Anne Marie Armstrong led Wesleyan with a game-high 23 points. Judean Hanks added 16 and Erin Hall 13 for the Lady Wolves. Hanks had just five points in the first meeting between the two teams.

Buford was paced by 19 points from Blanche Alverson. Jocelyn Danley added 12 for the Lady Wolves.
