Clemson QB Korn has surgery on throwing shoulder

By The Associated Press
CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says backup freshman quarterback Willy Korn had surgery on his right shoulder and could be ready to play in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day.

Swinney says surgeons fixed some damage to cartilage in Korn's throwing shoulder Sunday and he has already begun rehabilitation.

Korn pulled himself out of warmups at the Nov. 22 game at Virginia after feeling discomfort. Pain in the same shoulder also cut short the only start of his college career, Oct. 18 against Georgia Tech.

Korn is 26-of-38 for 216 yards, a touchdown and an interception in six games this season.

Swinney says senior Cullen Harper will start at the Gator Bowl with sophomore Michael Wade ready to back him up if Korn doesn't fully recover.
