Dec. greeted by cold, wet, windy weather

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
UNDATED - It's a wet, cold and windy morning across much of north Georgia, with the chance of snow accumulations of up to 4 inches in some mountain areas today and tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, which is in effect until 1 a.m. tomorrow for those places where an accumulation might occur. This includes the higher elevations generally north and east of the line from Chatsworth to Ellijay to Jasper to Dahlonega and Cleveland.

Forecasters now say that above 2,500 feet elevation, accumulations of up to 4 inches of snow are possible.

Ice was reported on bridges in Hall County as early as 5:30 but 7:00 things were back to normal.

Schools are closed today in Rabun and Fannin counties because of icy roads. (See separate story.)
