Lady Bulldogs land 4 new players; Tech picks up 3

By The Associated Press
Georgia picked up four players at the start of the early signing period for women's basketball, while Georgia Tech added three newcomers.

The Lady Bulldogs signed 6-foot-3 wing player Anne Marie Armstrong, 6-2 center Jasmine Hassell, 5-9 guard Jasmine James and 6-2 forward Tamika Willis.

Armstrong plays at the Wesleyan School in Norcross, while Willis attends Atlanta's Westlake High. Hassell and James are both from Tennessee.

``I'm very pleased with the quality of the class,'' Georgia coach Andy Landers said. ``I'm sure this class as a whole will be recognized as an outstanding group, but each individual player is outstanding and will have the opportunity to make our team better.''

Georgia Tech signed 5-9 point guard Sharena Taylor of Pontiac, Mich.; 6-2 guard Jasmine Blain of North Cobb Christian High school in Kennesaw; and 6-5 center Shayla Bivins of Jacksonville Fla.

``We have signed an impact point, a shooting guard with size and a physical post that has tremendous upside,'' coach MaChelle Joseph said. ``My staff has done an unbelievable job the past three seasons, following up back-to-back top-10 classes with another class ranked in the nation's top 20 this year.''
