Evans rescinds furlough days

By Staff
JEFFERSON - Jackson County Sheriff Stan Evans has rescinded furlough days for his employees.

Evans met with Jackson County Finance Director John Hulsey recently to discuss the sheriff's office's financial situation, along with the financial situation of the county in general.

During the meeting, it was determined that the total amount "we were being asked to cut was 5 percent of the total of unspent funds instead of five of our total approved budget for the remaining two months," Evans said.

Evans said this figure was quite a bit less than what was first thought and can be achieved through line-item cuts in unspent funds for the remaining two months of the year, thus eliminating the need for employee furloughs.

"We will continue the hiring freeze and the elimination of overtime for the remainder of 2008," Evans added.
