ATLANTA - Lake Lanier could soon set a new record low, just one year after the current one was established.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Tuesday that Lanier could surpass last year's low in early December.
The lake hit its previous record low on Dec. 26, 2007, when it reached 1,050.79 feet. The government's latest four-week forecast indicates the lake could reach 1050.60 by the first week of December.
The epic drought gripping north Georgia has taken a toll on Lanier, but forecasters say the winter rainfall will help replenish the north Georgia lake.
